What It Is That You Really Want?
People always talk about goals. They say, you must have a goal. How can you ever get there if you don’t even know where you going?
All the gurus that keep telling us what we should or shouldn’t do, should or shouldn’t know. And then they come up with a bunch of super insightful questions and say ‘I CAN HELP YOU FIGURE IT OUT. I HAVE ALREADY HELPED HUNDREDS / THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AND NOW THEY ARE SUCCESSFUL.’ So we start comparing ourselves with others and think
WOW, some people really are successful. And I don’t even know what I want. What is wrong with me?
Then we start following these success stories. We want to hear what they have to say. We want to know how they did it. We need inspiration and motivation but very often find ourselves feeling small and inadequate and not good enough.
But we try. We try hard. We know that we need a goal. So we set a goal. We know that in order to achieve that goal we must have discipline, determination, grit and we are ready. We are ready and we keep telling ourselves I’VE GOT THIS. I CAN DO THIS. So, with the great attitude and all self-help books just one Amazon click away and the next day delivery, easily and almost effortlessly we can learn how to wake up at 5 o clock every morning, including weekends, like all winners do. Or how to make decisions fast. All successful people make decisions fast and change them slowly, if ever. We can learn to act within 5 seconds of our decision, before our mind talks us out of taking any action. Or morning routine? Successful people have great morning routine. They don’t hit snooze button. They know how important morning routine is and they are productive right from the beginning of every day.
This is all great advice, just to name a few. And I personally follow it. I really do.
But sometimes, sometimes, it feels as if it’s all about MUST DO, MUST BE, MUST HAVE and then I wonder, what about what I really want? What about what YOU really want?
We spend our lives chasing dreams, chasing goals, trying to do the right thing, but very often forgetting to STOP and ask ourselves HOW DO I FEEL?
We are not robots. We are not one size fit all.
And while I’m not saying NO to goals and I’m not saying NO to dreams and I’m definitely not saying that there aren’t people out there who are experts, good people, wise people, people who have knowledge and skills and can help us on our way to self-discovery and fulfillment. What I’m suggesting is that before we turn on the noise of the social media and start looking for solutions and ideas or answers to our many questions. Before you start chasing career, relationships, money…
STOP!
Find a quiet place, close your eyes and feel the beat of your heart. And breathe. Feel the moment of your life and realise that this moment is all that we have. This moment is the only time of our existence. There is past and there is future. But we are never there. We are always here and now.
So find your quiet place and ask yourself. What it is that I really want? Ask yourself HOW DO I WANT TO FEEL IN THIS MOMENT AND MANY OTHER MOMENTS OF MY LIFE THAT ARE YET TO COME? HOW DO I WANT TO FEEL IN MY LIFE?
I’ve spent many years chasing stars but what I’ve come to realise is that what I really need is to feel connected, to understand and to be understood, to see and to be seen, to teach others and to learn from them, to love and to be loved.
You can build anything you want on this kind of foundation.
When you realise that all the answers you’ve been looking for are within you and there is NO competition. You are at home, you are safe and you can finally see that the doors to your success are WIDE OPEN.
